Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. The couple was moved to Oxfordshire at the age of five where she attended the Dragon School. From the age of six Emma realized she would like to be an actor and for many years she was a student at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school in which she was taught singing dancing and acting. Her performances had been in numerous Stagecoach as well as school plays before she was 10 years old. The casting process began in 1999 to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was identified by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through eight consecutive auditions. Emma's first cinematic appearance was as a part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. The film was also the most successful film in 2001. The opening days and weekends of sales were record-breaking. Reviewers were awed by the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph, an important British publication, described Emma's acting "amazing". In the following days, Emma was nominated for five awards for her role in the film winning the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress Young in an Feature Film.
